Check out the documetary Maxed Out. It has a great part about how BK people are targets and why. If I remember correctly it's basically what Phillymanhere stated before
On the other hand, Cap One knows you cannot file for 8 years and they know you have no other cc debt now. So maybe you're simply a good risk for them.
also mentioned in the documentary; you have a taste for credit so you're more likely to jump at the chance to get another card.

My 0.02 cents; Just say no!

That is good advice for people who cannot control themselves. Our BK was due to a business failure after eight good years, sales went sour with the economy.

We never had a problem with outrageous personal spending.

We'd like to buy a different house someday.

How can one go about that without building your credit back up?

      You gotta have decent credit.

Yeah, we need to build up credit because we like to travel and sometimes we need to rent a car in a foreign country and they require sometimes $1000 or more deposit on a credit card.

However, we will NEVER again charge up thousands of dollars in debt on cards, we just would like maybe 2 cards of each $1500 for emergency use. So we do want to build up our credit.
