Can't find Social Security Card!

Hi everyone,

I filed chapter 7 pro se a couple of days ago. Yeah! I checked the voice case information system and it had all the info regarding my case number, trustee, 341 date, etc. But I noticed here that everyone says that you need to bring DL and SS card. I can't believe it, but I can't find my SS card. I thought I had it in a specific place but it wasn't there and I can't find it anywhere. I will request a replacement but I don't think I will get it in time. Does anyone know if they will accept anything else in place of the actual card? My 341 meeting will be held in California's central district.

Check your job see if they made a copy of it when u were hired .. that might work....

You can use the official letter from your social security office when you request the new one in person. Be sure they stamp it.

However, I recently requested a new card in person and it was delivered in less than a week.

Request a duplicate card from your local SS Dept. and in the interim see if they will take a paystub from your employer listing your SS number. I had to request a new card in 2006 and it took over six weeks to get and that was after visiting the SS office.

They will accept a passport, too...do you have one of those?

they want PROOF of your SS#. I don't think passports contain this info....??

Sorry...I stand corrected. I thought the local trustee at my 341 told someone they could use their passport. I just checked my passport and there is no reference to my SS#.

You can use a passport in lieu of driver's license but not the SSN card I believe.

As the other's stated go to your local Social Security office and request a duplicate. Get them to fill out a paper stating it is your number and stamp it, that way if it doesn't come in time you have something. Then it is likely even if the Trustee insists on seeing it at most he'll continue the 341.

I lost mine also. I went to SS office and filled out paperwork for a new one. You will need drivers liscense to get the new one. It's free if you go to SS office. I got new one in mail in about 2 weeks.

Friend of mine didn't have his and they accepted bank statements in place if it. Call your clerk at the bankruptcy court and see if they accept something else as proof.

I can't find mine either. I went to a small SS office that wasn't crowded and they said it will come in 2 weeks. Also, they gave me an official confirmation of my number in writing.

I also went to the SS office and had my new one in about a week. I hadn't had one in years !

We had to get one for DH he couldn't find his. We went to the SS office to get it and were told it should be here in 7-10 days, it took more like 3 weeks.

I know they offered us a official paper stating we had applied for it and they said it would work for anyone requesting to see his card.

So anyway, if you can get that and my guess is it should work for your 341.
