    What to do?

I know I have asked a simular question here, but her goes again. Our credit card payments are due and we havn't filed yet, but are going to as soon as our taxes come back. Just mailed them last week. So about 4-6 weeks?? Anyways if we do not pay our cards, will they garnish our wages until we file in say 6 weeks? I have one due today and really do not have even the $16.00 to pay it since we are trying to make ends meet on cash.

And...we are not going to file until end of summer, just retain and make payments to attourny per their payment plan and then he files.
Just don't want to get in trouble with garnishments you know?

Also I have medical bills we are going to discharge also, havn't been paying on them. Can they cancel my insurance if we discharge them? My insurance is through Allina who I work for. So I don't want to get fired for not paying my bill also. Can I discharge the medical bills?

Thanks for help. And again no tough love answers! I will be strong again one day but not now though.

    Thanks
    Schel

    Schel,

I suppose the question comes to be asked how long has it been since you paid on the credit cards?

It generally takes 6 months or longer of nonpayment before they'll come after wage garnishments and most take years as they'll just charge off them after 6 months and rebundle the debt and sell it to someone else.

As for your insurance I don't think it can be cancelled. I'm assuming the money you owe is not to the insurance company.

schel, I bk'd a bill from my employer(I work for hospital). Not only did they never mention it, they never filed a claim. Now they did give me a statement showing I owed them xxx about a year and a half ago. I called the accounts receivable and told them if they showed me that bill the next time I had to have lab work or a procedure, I would be contacting my lawyer. Guess it worked, when I had my heart cath last year, no one brought it up

Thank you all, think I am going to pass on paying this one due today. Feels weird! I feel guilty that I am missing a payment. Is that normal?

We quit paying cards in Jan as soon as we knew we needed to file BK. We retained our lawyer in Feb. We are still not filed hoping it will be soon. We received numerous calls that first missed payment. That would have been in Feb. We gave each collector our attorney's name and number. At first we avoided the calls, basically just let them call for probably a month. Then in March, we answered the phone told them we were filing and gave them his number. Little by little the calls stopped. This is going on almost 4 months since we quit paying. We have gotten 2 collection letters so far. We are fowarding everything at this point onto our attorney at his suggestion.

Yes it felt weird, very weird. We had never been late or missed a payment. We have continued to pay our mortgages but we intend to keep the house.

Is here. Get used to your phone ringing, but that's all the bad action we've had, and it's getting close to two months.

              Hang In There

              Schel,

I know it feels wierd, but no sense in wasting your hard earned money on debt that's going to be erased anyway. Use your money to get ahead on other things you know you've been needing, but haven't had the money for. Keep current on your house payment if you're planning on staying in the home, or on any vehicles you plan on keeping.

Hang in there...keep reading and educating yourself here. It's worth it's weight in gold. It really helped us lower our stress level about the whole process.

              Good Luck,
