how do you prove number of dependants?

I am overseas and my wife is overseas. She is not a US citizen and is not working. So when I do the filing, how should I go about proving the number of dependents at 341 meeting? Marriage certificate is enough?

I also support my old parents to a large extent but they also live in a different country. Is it possible to add them as dependents if they are not US citizens?

Kpapt, personally I would declare my dependents openly, wife and parents, and then let the trustee worry about whatever documentation he/she finds necessary.

Don't try to add or subtract dependents from your filing depending on what you think the trustee will want or how it will affect your case; just declare the ones you actually have and provide the trustee with any documentation asked of you. Marriage, birth, death certificates are all great, so you may want to start collecting photocopies now even if they are foreign; again, let the trustee sort out the documentation.

Keep in mind that the trustee will also have your bank statements, so your payments to them will be immediately visible to him. I'm also pretty sure you won't be the first person the bk court has seen with foreign dependents, *especially* if you live in an area with a high number of immigrants (L.A. or Miami, for example) so your situation should not be hard for them to sort out. Good luck!!!
Nolo Press book on filing Chapter 7, there are others too. (I have no affiliation with Nolo Press; just a happy customer.) Best wishes to you!
