Husband and I are 31 and 28 respectively, with 4 kids under 8. Ours is a long story- but basically had a horrible last pregnancy with several complications. I lost my job, needed cards to help us out, and also amounted quite a bit of medical bills. It was either go find another job and pay out the wahzoo for childcare or file and be able to stay home with my boys. Some may disagree- but I truly believe we made the right choice.

I am 27, dh is 30..we have 2 kids, 6 and 2.

We were 60K in unsecured debt...barely making our payments and then dh's salary got cut. After that wage loss, that pretty much decided for us what we needed to do.

I'm glad we've learned this lesson while we're young.
