This is just weird... (about car repo)

We haven't paid on our Saab since Dec; are surrendering it because it's broken and the cost to fix it is more than the car is worth and we just can't afford it (we'd LOVE to, we love the car, but we've already sunk $3K into in one year, and this would be another $6k for a new engine and the car is worth less than $5k at this point if it was in good condition).

We keep waiting for the repo company to come get it; figuring it will be gone someday when I get home (it's just sitting in our driveway, has been for over 3m).

I get home today to a door tag saying they stopped by and want to talk to us. Ummm, why not just take the car? I guess I should be happy that they really seem to want to "help". But My other thought is, it's pretty obvious that the car is broken, it's under snow (mostly) and the headlight is busted and the wipers are sitting on the hood. (Headlight courtesy of an icy driveway and my truck, lol -- wipers we transferred to a new car).

Is it possible they won't want it because it's broken? We owe about $4500 on it, just took the loan last May. We would call and arrange a place to drop it but it doesn't run and we can't afford to tow it anywhere so we keep waiting for them to come get it.

    Any ideas?

Edited to add, we haven't actually filed yet; which is part of why we don't want to call the bank yet:

I wouldn't worry about it. If they left a number just call and tell them they are welcome to take it. If they show back up while you are home, tell them you can't afford it and give them the keys. It takes a while for them to sell at auction and figure out deficiency balances so if you are filing in April it shouldn't be a problem. We were repo'd in September and it took them till December to notify us of the deficiency balance.

Don't they get more money if they get the keys to vehicle as well (repo man) ?

I'm thinking they need the keys anyways since it's got an alarm system and would set it off by moving it (I would think it would set it off anyways).

        Maybe that's why.
