Do they send someone out to appraise your house? How do they know how much equity you have?

No, they don't normally send someone. But given that your BK documents are sworn documents, you can't just assign any ole' value to your home. Trustees have a pretty good sense of what houses are worth in their area.
But, the can send someone if they want too, but doing so is not part of a normal BK.

Well, I checked out Zillow just to see what it was - and it shows my house at $4,000 LESS than I owe on it now and $7,000 less than I paid.
That might make sense with the way the housing market is - I've only been there 2 years. If I could use that, it would actually help me by showing negative equity, right?Filed C7: 3/21/08

I called the realtor who sold me the house and she's going to pull up some comparisons for me. Nothing has changed with the house since she sold it to me so she knows the condition of it so she should be able to easily get me a value. I will be curious to know anyhow!Filed C7: 3/21/08
