How long to repossess a car

Not stealing. But failure to follow the court order, contempt, or whatever. Could lead to criminal charges.

I guess I'm thinking we are talking about a special car to motivate someone to take it that far though.

Many years ago, one tried. Broke into the garage, and another person's car, to move it to get to mine. Caught the fool because the alarm went off. Told him, "you should be careful, people around here carry guns". He left and never came back.

Side note. All payments were current. It was a straw purchase made by an old girlfriend on my behalf. On the direction of the dealer's finance officer, I might add. I eventually gave the car to her.

Then there was the repo guy who caused the bank to absolve my brother's car loan.
Two repo guys showed up one night and blocked my brother's parallel parked car on the street, with their car. Then one of them took off on foot to find a pay-phone to call a tow truck. While he was gone my brother pulled onto the sidewalk and drove off. Once the remaining repo agent saw he was about to make a successful getaway, he jumped into their car. Wishing to cause him delay, I sat on the hood of their car. He kept telling me to get off, I refused. Then he drove off in the direction his buddy went, with me on the hood of his car.

Wait it gets better.

I had a cast on one hand. So now I'm freaking, hanging on with one hand. I bring the cast down on the windshield to make him stop. He does, and I get off and walk the block back home.

About an hour later the Police show up at the door. Seems a repo agent wants to file a complaint because of a cracked windshield I allegedly caused. When I told the officer my account of events, he turned beet red and yelled at the two.
He then asked me if I wished to press charges. I did. Then contacted an attorney.

It's two different stories, both true.

And the bank forgave his loan to avoid court, only about $1600 IIRC.

ok i heard that a repo guy can call the police and have you open the garage but I would think they need some type of court order for that... also if a repo guy is in your garage without the police and a order he is asking to get shot and the is trespassing.. and that story is ooooohh soo funny ..well now/... why were they trying so hard to get the car. I would think they would just try another day after all that..

To answer your question though I need to really know more of your situation. From this I gather you can't make the vehicle payment(s).

Stop paying on any unsecured debt first. Visa, MasterCard, Discover etc should be the last to get any money when you make out your bills. If you still can't make the payment it'll take about 2 months of missed payments for the loan company to send a repo man. However hopefully without paying the credit cards you can make the car payment

i have a question that is kinda along the lines i filed chapter 7 04/16 went to my 341 06/02 and today is my 63 day pacer says awaiting discharge i filed to surrender my 2006 Hyundai Elantra and they have not come to pick it up no i have not called them and i am not contacting they the requested notice on pacer so they know that i have filed on this car why have they not come pick it up

any help is greatly appreciated can that hold up my discharge i checked pacer no objections filed or nothing ther was a filing by recovery management on 07/31 which was day 59 could that be about the car have received nothing by mail from the court saying to return it and Americredit has not called or sent any correspondence

Any suggestions greatly appreciated

Depends I think if he is your minor child or an adult, however yes it has the potential too. This is a question to ask attorneys during the free initial consultation.

Don't leave anything valuable in the car or personal effects.

What was the filing by Recovery Management on the 31st?

Them failing to contact you or pick up the vehicle will not delay discharge or closure of the case.

the filing of recovery management from my understanding is a company that has purchased me debt they request notice so they want to be up on what is going on i also checked pacer and the due/set date for objections was 08/01 and there was none so i am just waiting on the discharge but i do not keep NOTHING in that car because i know eventually they will come Right? It is too crazy i have not sent them a dime since February.
