    pacer?

At what point is a good time to start checking Pacer?

    #2
Depends what you're looking for. I got a PACER acct about a month before I filed and was using it to research other cases because I was going pro se. If you have an atty and that's not your purpose, then you would check it just after you file (your atty will have a case # for you as soon as the case is filed), maybe once a week if there are no known issues just to keep track of the activity, and then just before your 341. After 341, every week or two until discharge. You may find that more frequent checks are better for your situation, but there is a tendency to go overboard and check it every hour once something gets posted, yet in reality that tends to be, uh... counterproductive. Good luck!!!!
Nolo Press book on filing Chapter 7, there are others too. (I have no affiliation with Nolo Press; just a happy customer.) Best wishes to you!

When you use it as research, what do you put in to find out about your area?

My case was e-filed yesterday but is not showing up on Pacer. Do you know how long before it shows up there?

It should show up immediately I think, or at least within 24 hours.
Are you sure you're looking in the right district?

I know in our case there were about 5 districts of my state and one of them sounded like it was the right one, but was not, so at first I was barking up the wrong tree and wondering why it wasn't there!

Otherwise I'd think it should be there. When we filed our post-341 counseling papers (through our attorney), they showed up the next day.

I signed up for the immediate log in of Pacer on Thursday. It allowed me to log in once but on Friday I tried and it said my log in was in correct. Thinking maybe I wrote my info down incorrect, I requested my password and tried again, still can't log in. Has anyone else had this problem? I verified my user name and password but still can't log in........ugggggh

If you are copying and pasting the password, make sure you don't have an extra space in there. Double check every little letter etc. (I'm sure you know this but sometimes we think we are doing it correct and we're not.) Could be that you won't be able to log in until Monday or Tue in order for one business day to pass...?

Cali, sorry, I haven't been on in a day or so...

Anyway, the way I went about it was to find out what local rag publishes bankruptcies in my area (try googling "bankruptcy notice publish boston" or whatever your town is, without the quotes). These notices give you the name, case #, atty name (or pro se) and filer's name. That's all you need to go in and see what is being filed around you. You can also go to your district's website and look at "Judge's Decisions" for Chapter 7 references, and if you see something interesting, look up the case.

See if your courthouse has free PACER access, because then you can search on attorney names and all sorts of things to your hearts content. At home, you want to avoid huge searches because the cost can really add up, but if it's free...! Before I went, I had already picked out a couple of local attys that were participating in blogs and writing articles and trying test cases (indications of good lawyers) and searched their cases for samples I could use. I also looked up a few that I knew were bk mills, just to see the differences.

                  Hope this helps!

                  P.S. *laugh* Good one, Coma!!!!

Well, I tried again this A.M. at 0930, still can't log in. I've made sure that I'm typing in the correct (case sensitive) ID and password. So, I've sent PAcer an email. Can't figure it out???????????????????? ugh!!!

What should you look on in Pacer? I thought it was posted somewhere but i can not find. I filled last Thursday and am not sure what tabs to look for. I have looked at all of them at least once but would like to know what tabs to look at so I do not run up a bill. Here are my options

                          Query
                          Alias
                          Associated Cases
                          Attorney
                          Case Summary
                          Creditor
                          Deadline/Schedule
                          Docket Report ...
                          Filers
                          History/Documents
                          Notice of Bankruptcy Case Filing
                          Party
                          Related Transactions
                          Status
                          Trustee
                          Claims Register
                          Creditor Mailing Matrix
                          Chp 7 Filled 2-21-08

Monkatom, I personally don't look at anything but the Docket, because everything that gets filed is listed and can be accessed from there. The rest you know from your filing itself, but are split out for quick reference, I assume. But when you first log in and open your case, at the top it should tell you the date of last activity: if that hasn't changed since your last visit, you don't need to look at anything at all, because nothing has changed since the last time you looked. If you keep to that rule your charges will be minimal. Good luck!!!

Thank you very much. I was checking everything and thinking I was probably overdoing it. Will the docket show any compalints or objections from creditors?
                              Thanks
