Filing the end of this month if I can pay the atty.

Anyone else had a really hard time getting the money to pay the atty? I get paid every two weeks and my atty. costs a bit more because he mainly deals with business BK and I need $2500 plus filing fees before I can file. My car has been acting up, and misc. home repairs have been required.

It's been rough because when my financial troubles started, I tried keeping everything current, ran short of money bigtime and now have to play catch up because the essentials are behind. I was just wondering if I was the only one having to prolong paying one or two essential bills just to be able to afford the lawyer? Hopefully I can file Ch. 7 at the end of Feb. because I'm tired of being scared of answering my phone/screening my calls and fearful of a knock at the door from someone serving me papers.

it took me over two years to come up with the money for the lawyer, then another three months to come up with the filing fee. I just turned my phone off.

I never did come up with the money for an attorney (I'm pro se by necessity).

May I ask if you are still paying unsecured debt, like credit cards? If you know you're going to file a 7, many people stop paying unsecureds and use that money specifically for an attorney. I don't know if that's something you can do, but it's a thought. Good luck!!!
Nolo Press book on filing Chapter 7, there are others too. (I have no affiliation with Nolo Press; just a happy customer.) Best wishes to you!

I am not going without paying essential bills like utilities or rent, but my car insurance was late again and I think USAA may be getting ready to drop me. (that's okay, I got a quote from Geico and will probably switch over) I can no longer pay them online even though I can look up my bill. I haven't been paying my phone, cable, or electric until I absolutely have to and I did stop paying my creditors. That has helped but it will be awhile before it becomes comfortable because of the constant catching up and the lawyer payment. My goal is also the end of Feb but my original goal was earlier. Plus I am counting on two tax returns. I had some Xmas money I was going to put towards the lawyer but car repairs pretty much wiped that out. The phone calls are just something I have to live with in the meantime...but that too shall pass. It's not easy but it is definitely easier than struggling to pay all those creditors. I'll get there Southernbelle, and you will too. One clumsy toddler step at a time.
