Questions about Ch.7 filing and keeping one credit card open

Just filed Ch. 7 today -- will become a renter again after 8 years of being homeowner...bummer.

I need to keep my job and I do need to travel for my job. I have an American Express Corporate Card sponsored by my company -- but I am responsible for paying the monthly balance. It is current and have reaffirmed this debt.

Question --> I have other American Express debts that I am seeking to discharge, so will American Express let me keep my Corporate Card since it is in good standing? Should I just wait and see what happens? Or should I be pro-active and call Amex?

Any thoughts or insights would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

I'd be proactive and call AmEx. I had a card that was paid off right before my filing, and I desperately wanted to keep it, since it had a small (read: manageable!) credit limit and then I'd still have a card. The account was always kept current, and my attorney told me that we didn't have to include it in the actual filing, but there was a possibility that they could find the info...

...and they did. I needed to use it one day, and I checked the account online and it was fine and good. Until a couple of hours later, when I was checking out at Target, and surprise! "We need another form of payment." Ugh. I paid with my debit card and got the heck out, and when I got home to check online, sure enough, I got the "Due to issues with your account, you must call" message. So I knew it was gone.

My attorney said that I could call and plead my case, to try and keep the account open, but well, I'm such an avoider that I just didn't...

So yeah, especially since you need this card for work, call and make sure it's okay. I thought mine would be fine, too, since the account was in good standing, paid to a zero balance and I'd never been late on a payment, but the simple fact that I'd filed bk caused them to take it away. So it's better to have that conversation before they do anything (if they do anything). I never signed a reaffirmation, since there was no debt to reaffirm since it was paid off at the time. Has AmEx signed their end of your reaffirmation yet?

American Express can be hard to deal with. Good luck and I hope they work with you regarding your coprorate card. I have had no luck with them.

Yes, they are very hard to deal with. I worked at Costco (they only except that CC) and just calling them to verify why a debtor couldn't use his card was hell. We are getting very harassing calls from AE right now.
