I don't want to include certain creditors in my filing because it's important to me to pay them back someday and if the debt is discharged, I can't ever repay them. Bless you for even thinking about such a thing. You're no longer obligated to repay them, but you always have that opportunity. If your conscience won't let you sleep nights because you didn't pay your debts, there's nothing in the bankruptcy code that prevents you from doing that once you're back on your feet. But bankruptcy is an all-or-nothing deal, so you have to include all your creditors in the petition.

If you are asking if you can "leave a creditor off your matrix", it was my understanding that you had to include ALL creditors in your filing, but if you choose to pay them back on your own later, that is totally up to you to voluntarily do on your own. As it was told to me, you can't pick and choose which creditors you list and which ones you exclude from your Matrix. I'm sure one of the moderators will respond and help you.

How do I go about finding out how to pay these people that I owe back?

I was under the impression that your records with that company were gone and you cannot repay them.

We haven't filed yet, but are to see an attny. in the near future.

You must list every creditor when you file. After discharge you can choose to pay whomever you choose. But they point would be why? If a credit card company, they could care less. Some cc companies will never give you credit again no matter how much you give them back. Now if this was family debt, then that is different. You have to list them, but can pay them after discharge.

Simpleman, a debt owed never really goes away in terms of records being lost; many times by the time you file that debt has already been sold to a junk debt buyer who bought it for pennies on the dollar in the hopes that they could collect from you what your original creditor couldn't.

Ditto rockinggramma: unless it's family debt, don't bother. It won't help, they don't care, and if it's a credit card, you may never be able to pay it off: the fees and interest are enormous. But you have to do what your conscience dictates. Best wishes to you in your filing!

Actually, there are a couple instances that people are forgetting.
If say you had outstanding bills to a doctor or dentist that you liked and wanted to keep using.
A lot of times doctors will drop patients that BK thier debts with them.
If you want to keep seeing them, you might want to repay what you owed them regrardless of if it were discharged.
I know we probably won't have my wife's doctor paid off when we file.
And does not want to go to a different doctor.
So when we file, we will let him know what is going on, and that we will still pay what we owe him. Listing him for the BK will just be a formality, and something that we have to do.
