Most people don't have the discipline to save money, they will spend what they have. The best way to save money is to put it away before you ever get it. If you have it, you will spend it, if you never see it, you won't miss it.

This is especially easy to do with direct deposit. Open a savings account at a bank that is different from the one you use for checking, one that is not easily accessible. Start with just 10 dollars from each paycheck being deposited into the savings account.

As previously stated, you need a rainy day fund. Anticipating a tax refund next year? Plan on putting it away for an emergency. Get a small windfall from somewhere? Put it in the rainy day fund. Did you save money using coupons, put it in the rainy day fund. You get my drift, I'm sure.
I used to have a life, now I have grandkids.
