    student loans

what is really weird with my credit reports, is that some of my student loans with sallie mae are reported as IIB with $0 balance. how could that be? i thought they weren't able to be discharged?? i'm wondering if it has to do with some loans being subsidized and unsubsidized??

Marz, I think anything included in bk is supposed to show a zero balance on your credit report. To show otherwise could be construed as an attempt to collect the debt.

And I may be wrong, but that was my understanding. I am sure someone who knows for sure will be along shortly and let us know for sure.

But it is my understanding that student loans are NOT dischargeable, so why would it say "0 balance"?

I hope, for your sake, they are somehow dischargeable and you don't owe them anymore!

I was told my student loan through the Dept. of Edu. is not dischargeable. I thought about paying it off a couple years ago with a low interest credit card loan. (But my student loan was slightly lower in interest.) If I knew then that I was going to file, I would have done so! Hindsight is 20/20...

Mine were like that too. Once you are discharged and the automatic stay is lifted they will go back to normal. You might have to call them and straighten it out, but believe me they aren't discharged. I was wishen they were!!!!!

Mine have been placed in deferment by the lender, and they told me to call them after discharge to get online access back, and to start repayment at that time.
