I have gotten a over the phone consultation with legal helpers they said I qualified for a chpt 7. I had some concerns. Will this take care of items on checksystems? And anyone know the cost of a chapter 7?

I've heard somewhere on these boards that a bankruptcy 7 will take care of chexsystem. However, don't know how to direct you to the thread (I'm still fairly new to here)

Chexsystem tracks any bad/bounced checks... or overdrawn bank accounts. That's about all I know other than it is only supposed to stay on your credit for 5 years.

The only time it really messes with you is if you are writing a check to a retailer/etc some run it thru chexsystems. Or, if you have to open a new bank account, they usually check the chexsystem, too.

I think the attorneys fees for chapter 7 will depend upon where you live. I know we paid $2500 for chapter 7 and we're in florida.

Wow. I paid $1299 and I'm in FL too. The $299 was the filing fee.

The first atty I spoke with, however, charged $2000....eeeek!...double what the attorney I went with charged. And the expensive attorney was a jerk to boot.

good think i locked in prior to my attorney increasing her fees.....she now charges $1295 which includes everything.

has anyone used legal helpers a friend referred me to them they said they can do payment plans but I wanted to get some opions from those of you that have already filed.

I ran into attorneys charging anywhere between $975 and $4000 (yes, that's $4000!) I told the latter they were way out of line. I ended up finding one for $1275 that I liked and who had the experience I was seeking.

I can recommend 2 sites for you to look for an attorney. Of course, take this with a grain of salt, I do not know the attorneys on this site. But heard good things about the sites:

Most of the attorneys I spoke with (about 6 in all) said they'd take a small retainer ($300-500) and let me pay the rest whenever I could.
But none will file until they are paid in full.

If you are asking if the Ch. 7 will erase bounced checks, I don't know but I would think not. It may vary by state? This is a question for your attorneys during free consultations. Maybe someone here knows.
