    was pacer useful to you?

hi all......just curious to see if pacer was useful to you during your bk....I have used it a good bit and find it to be a valuable tool for me....I have been able to read my documents thoroughly and clearly and have kept close eye on my case....
I have a couple legal issues that may delay my discharge a little longer, but for all the new commers I strongly recommend
it.....by the way my bill so far is at $16.08.....money well spent to me......good day to all.........guzzie

I check PACER once a week to see if anything new has been filed in our case. We are dealing with two Ch 13 trustee objections, so it's helpful to get the jump when briefs are filed, court dates are assigned, etc.

Over the last 15 months my bill totals under $20, but I only look at my own case. Like guzzie, I consider it money VERY well spent!

It's when you start looking up other peoples' cases that your PACER bill can get high quickly. It's amazing how fast $0.08/page can add up! Just have to be careful with PACER searches - that's the key.
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

01/24/07 - Judge dismisses mortgage company objection
    09/27/07 - Confirmed at last!

I used Pacer alot before I was confirmed. I knew before my attorney that the trustee objected to our plan, ha, ha. Now that I am confirmed, I haven't been on Pacer for almost 3 years.

It's helped....at first I was checking compulsively, now maybe once a week. Once the plan is confirmed, will probably check once a month until last day for claims (I'm nosey that way).
        Filed 07/07, $120k unsecured debt
Plan: $400 (includes cram down) 60 months
Brilliant attorney, decent trustee, awesome plan

It took me a long while to figure Pacer out, even though it's talked about on here a lot and there is a Stickey.

I checked it a couple of times a week but my case wasn't very complicated so nothing much happened that was noteworthy.

The only documents I really looked at were the two filed on Monday, my actual discharge and final decree. Those I downloaded and printed.

But knowing about Pacer and being able to check dates is really invaluable, otherwise I guess you'd be calling your attorney all the time to check on progress.

My attorney never told me about Pacer; I learned about it on here, which was great!

I have a question about checking pacer. What is the best way to see if anything new has been added? I have been going into the document history (I think that's what it is called) Seems there is prob an easier way.

hi jennyn.....yes there is....when you log on and enter your bk case # and your case comes up, look at the date of last filing....if it is new from last time you looked something has been changed or filed with your case....than if it involves new documents you can find them under document history.....continued good luck.....guzzie

Please keep PACER and the BK process in perspective. It is too easy to get obsessive about checking PACER. Even checking PACER once a week is too often.

When you file your case, you only need to check PACER twice before the 341 meeting. Once within 3 days of filing to make sure everything has been filed and that no "deficiency of filing notice" has been filed by the clerk. The next time you would check is about 3-4 days before the 341 meeting to see if any creditor has filed a "notice of appearance"

After the 341 meeting, you want to check Pacer about a week after 341 to see how the trustee has "preliminarily" categorized your case. Otherwise, during the 60 day objection period, you may want to check PACER, AT MOST, every 10 days or so.

Keep in mind too, the court will send you a copy of anything that is filed in your case to the address you list on your BK petition.

I'm in the 60 day wait and check EVERY single day. LOL I just NEED to know if anything is happening and I find that comforting to know I can even do that!

Just used Pacer for the first time. It works well. I confirmed that the financial mgt course we took has been filed with the court and we are all set.

Also, we see that the lenders of the investment properties have filed for the relief from stay so they can foreclose.

                        Status: Awaiting Discharge........

I checked Pacer Monday the day I was due for discharge, and sure enough it was on there, right on time. I received the letter from my attorney informing me of discharge today.

So you do actually get info earlier; however, I can see the point of not being obsessive about it, checking it really often.

I wasn't expecting any objections or anything strange in my case, and that's exactly the way it was.
