off the subject... cindylynn, you always so supportive of others. You are correct she does not have to explain why her husband is incarcerated. I just hope we can help her as much as possible.

Biotech, are you in law school or something. YOu seem to know the BK laws like the back of your hand, well, at least the non-consumer BK.
Success is reachable, stretch out your arm and grab it.

I think with 24K after your deductions and being only a 2006 tax year, it will probably be around $8,000 that you'll owe. This is guessing though. You can file Chapter 7 obviously but you will still have to pay those taxes and I know with a 13, you can pay them out of your plan and avoid any penalty. I'm not sure how it works with a 7. You are saying $2K but how much in deductions are you anticipating? My g/f is in sales and has about 18K of deductions on a 60K salary.
Well, I have a lot of deductions... in fact, it ended up as $19,000 after. $3000-ish for client accomodations, and about $13,500 for mileage. The other odds and ends were for continuing ed, Realtor dues, etc. I read the rules for penalties... there are 3 penalties that apply.

-5% for each month that passed until you filed (not to exceed 25%)

-0.5% for each month that you weren't paying on what you owe

-8% interest (as of Aug.) on what you owe. This changes every 3 months.

Maybe I'm dumb, but how would that possibly add up to $8000? Am I missing something? It's very possible that I am...

PS- Cindy is right... not really anyone's buisness, but if you must know, he is serving 6 months for "Failure to Stop for Accident." Then he will be deported to Honduras until I can prove to the Department of Homeland Security that his presence in Honduras is causing me, the US Citizen, extreme hardship. Unfortunately, this would be the case wether he had been deported or not. Family-based immigration in this country is very, very broken... most Americans have no idea how the family immigration laws work. I know people (with NO criminal record, mind you) who have been seperated from spouses and children for years. If you'd like to know more, you can visit www.immigrate2us.net-- this is the immigration forum. When and IF my husband can come home, he will have a visa and can legally work... we will have his income no sooner than a year or so from now. Probably more like 2 and a half years.

Thanks evveryone for your help! I truly appreciate it!

Ms. Santos, you will ONLY owe penalties on money you actually owe. I put off my taxes for 04 and 05 until late 06 thinking I owed tons of money...I thought I owed at least $8000.... I finally went in and paid a CPA 400.00 to staighten it all out for me. Well I walked out getting back 1200!! I was shocked! I pays to find someone good to help you out!! So if they owe you then there are no consequences to filing late unless they actually assess the taxes before you get to file them. I really hope your daughter gets to see her father soon!!!!!
Do you have the name of that CPA? ;) lol
