To JustMeHere....you will be fine. I had the same stress. I have a purebred pug that I bought last year, and I was terrified of losing him.
I think as long as you are not showing your dogs at Westminster (excuse me if I got spelling wrong) then you have no worries. I was asked on my petition about animals that I had and I asked my attorney about my pug puppy. She advised no worries...you can keep the pug. I think when you are asked the question on the financial disclosure that it's meant more for farmers with livestock/champion horsebreeders...etc.
Don't sweat this, and give your babies a big ol hug.

AHHHhh well guess I am the bad girl in this bunch of animal lovers!!
I aquired a 3 day old Rottweiler pup when I was a vet tech 9 yrs ago. Ruegar was my son (my original human son was taken from me when he was 2 yrs old, never got him back) ANYWAYS Ruegar, or Boom Bear as we called him is/was the love of my life.. my kids often complained throughout the years that I loved that dog more than I did them (geesh kids are smart!! LOL)
2 months ago on a routine vet visit they found problems with my boys blood count. He went from a 130 pound proud handsome man to a wasted 100 pound tired baby in just a month. I whipped out my cc's to the tune of $4000 to try to fix him... at this point we were already in debt and over our heads, so I didnt care! Bone marrow biopsies, 4 blood transfusions, ultrasounds, vets EVERY day for a month. The day Boom Bear couldnt walk I knew it was time. The HARDEST day of my life! I had him cremated and paid another $200 for his urn. I still have a shrine for him sitting on my dining room table, consists of 7 framed pics, his urn, a stone memorial I ordered, his collar and food bowls, his photo album, and a small peice of his hair.
I still cry... just not every day.. unless I LET myself think of him.

Thanks, Desperation. Pugs rock! 5 German Shepherds? How do you do it? Well, German Shepherds are SO smart and obedient that you probably don't have much problem at all, do you. Does the pug run the house? I know my Scottish Terrier doesn't take any BS from my GS. I got my GS from a shelter, too - I paid $80 for her - a bargain. Of course, they run up the bills afterwards, don't they? Although I'd love to put my German Shepherd in a show, I have some higher goals in mind. If I can get rid of this bloody debt, my fresh start is going to include doing something worthwhile with my life - work with animal rescue, work in shelters, maybe train my dog to be a therapy dog, work with the seeing eye, maybe. It's going to have to involve animals. I'll need training and for that, I will pay IN CASH. My dad died a couple of months ago, and my Scottie sort of played the role of a therapy dog sitting on his bed in hospice. Since my dad died I more than ever just want to try to become a good person again. I was once. But in this downward spiral for the past 13 years I've become a total mean and cranky deadbeat - all work, not enuf $.
copperarab, I'm sorry about Boom Bear. I've lost my share of dogs and ran up some outrageous vet bills on both my Scottie nigel and my last dog Hamlet who got hit by a car twice - the first time was only a big vet bill, the last time was The End. And nigel got torn up by a neighborhood dog ten years ago, and it scared me to death. Scared the wallet, too. When nigel goes, I'll be just like you. He IS the love of my life, too. I've always just buried my dogs in the past, but I've grown too attached to nigel - I will be probably do exactly what you did and make some sort of memorial for him. And why not? Part of me would like to just stuff him and put on his bed that says nigel - it would be comforting for me - but so many people think that's sick. I shouldn't care what people think, but I probably won't do it. Urn and a photo it will probably be.

The trustee is not interested in "family pets" UNLESS that family pet is pure bred, show dogs, and puppy factories. Then the trustee is interested in how much they are worth? Are they bred? Do you sell the pups?
The trustee will be interested in the family pets only IF YOU CAN MAKE MONEY OFF THEM..... then the Trustee sees this as AHHHH-INCOME.
But you can allow for pet food etc in your household expenses and most trustee's allow it (duh, they have pets/kids too).
Now if you had a "bengal tiger" the Trustee JUST MIGHT WANT TO PUT HIM UP FOR SALE!!!!
Yep, lots of us are "animal lovers" - in fact, I like animals better than I like some folks I know...... Hmmmmmmm, should tell them something, huh!!Minny

I know this is an old post, but I was searching through the forum and online about this. I have 2 purebred terriers, 4 years old and 3 years old. They're not show dogs or anything of that sort, but I did buy them from a breeder. My atty did tell me that I had to list them. Will I loose my dogs?

Lilacs - I highly doubt the judge wants any part of our slightly used dogs...there was a newer post at the time I was preparing my case and no one had been asked to surrender their pets. Your atty will know if you need to list your dogs or not. My atty did not care about my used boxer...like others have said I would probably have to PAY someone to taker her off my hands. I did declare the amount I spent on her in my budget though but she wasn't considered property in my case. Good luck!

ben1381 -- Eeeks! I know vet bills. But sometimes things come up and just needs to be taken care of. One of my dogs got sick from playing with the neighbor's dog in a open common area, and before I knew it, both my dogs were sick on and off. Took them into the vet for checkup...turned out we had to do lab test for each dog, medicine for both dogs, etc. The vet bill got expensive in 10 minutes time!
