Does it REALLY matter if the creditor reports you as late before you can file? It's being discharged anyway, right?

If legitimate late payments are showing on an account and the account is sold to a collector *before* you file, then for the next seven years, the original creditor can show you as paying late on your credit reports, even though the debt itself has been discharged in bankruptcy.

Whoever owns the debt when you file has to change their coding to IIB, but the original creditor can leave their coding as " X days late" because that's accurate. Lates do drop your credit score. However as we've said on here many, many times, when you have to file bankruptcy, the state of your credit score should be the last thing you are worrying about. Almost total recovery from bk is typical after two years in Ch 7 and right at discharge in Ch 13.
