How much more for a married couple?

How much more should it cost for a married couple to file as opposed to just one person? Is it double? or less than double?

I realize they can charge what they want and whatever the market will bear (as I saw from one attorney who wanted $4k for a simple ch. 7!). But - in general - how much more is it to file as a married couple vs. filing alone?

It would generally just cost the same amount to file together as it would for one person to file.
    Filed: 10/26/2006
    Discharged: 03/05/2007
Closed: 5/19/2008 - Asset case due to balance transfer and income tax refund

There is usually no difference in cost. About the only difference would be for the debtor edcuation couses since both of you need to take the course, but that would probably only amount to an extra $40-$60

It is probally less complicated with a joint . Reason being you dont have to explain this belongs to the spouse and not me she pay half etc. When you both file there is no question you list everything no dividing. So it could be even less. 4000 is outrageous I found average is 1000 to 1500
Sometimes life make you deal with ugly and hateful people ,just think of them as sand paper. They may scratch you and rub you the wrong way but eventually you end up smooth and polished and the sand paper becomes old and worn out.

My husband and I filed jointly in South Carolina and the cost was $1300.

We did our debtors education classes online and paid $50 (as a couple) for the pre-filing and $50 (as a couple) for the post-filing.

Thanks for the answer. I had wondered because one atty was asking $4k for a Ch7 and I thought maybe it was double due to my wife and I both filing...
Then I found out that this atty was just crazy expensive!
I finally found one for $975 and then one for $1750. Believe it or not I went with the higher priced one because he seemed more thorough and does ONLY bankruptcies whereas the other one also did divorces. Oh, the higher one also has more years of experience.
