Hi - I'm new to this forum and in the very beginning stages (research, etc) of the BK process. Can anyone provide suggestions on attorneys in Maryland (Frederick or Montgomery County) who are either "highly regarded" or "avoid at all costs" ? There are so many ads for these services that it's hard to even select a few to interview. Also, any tips on criteria for this decision would be most appreciated. Thank you.

I've found one of the best ways to find an attorney is by referrals from other attorneys that you may know, or perhaps a friend/family member may know. I got my referral from my real estate lawyer. Don't be afraid to name drop when setting up the initial appointments. The first few minutes of our initial interview was spent in anecdotal stories of our mutual acquaintance. Good way to start an important relationship. Real estate attorneys are a good source since they are often interacting with BK lawyers.

Hi all,
Reposting some observations on getting the right attorney....
Given the posts here, the 'wisdom of the forum' to shop around for attorneys seems apropos. Seems that communication is the #1 source of dissatisfaction; make sure that this is clear before deciding would solve many problems. The #2 source of dissatisfaction seems to be attention to detail, some folks want a high level of detail, all the t's crossed and i's dotted, and some don't want to deal with details, only care about the outcome. The #3 source of dissatisfaction, smaller in occurrence but highest in effect, is simple incompetence.
Some folks report interviewing 6-10 attorneys before finding a good fit. You know the old saying..you have to kiss a lot of frogs...

I've sent the info to both of you who request....check your message box..
One thing to note is you don't have to pay the full price upfront either....mine accepted a $500 retainer and then i just had to pay the rest anytime prior to filing. He/his firm was a bit pricey, but it's been worth every penny! Very prompt, secretary and paralegals are very friendly and responsive, and always deliver messages quickly...if i ever have a question, he always returns my call within 1 business day.
I hope it works out well for you guys, as well!Ch7 no asset Filed 11/23 341 12/21 discharged: 2/22/11 I am soooo totally not a lawyer, but i wish i had married one! Does that count for anything?
