    2nd job after filing

I just filed and I was wondering how soon I can try to get a 2nd job. We really need the money. I was almost 20,000 under the means test level for my state when I filed.

Most bankruptcy lawyers will advise that you hold off getting another job until after your 341 meeting is over. Often during the meeting, the trustee will ask if your income has changed since you filed, and you want to be able to answer 'no' to that question.

If you want to ensure that there is no chance of any problems with a second job, if you can, wait to get the second job until after your case is discharged in 3-4 months. Now that you don't have to pay unsecured credit cards and loan payments, your available income should increase enough to take up some of the shortfall in your current budget.

If you filed with a lawyer, what did he/she advise you to do?
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

I would definitely wait until your 341 Meeting. Beyond asking about a change in income, you never know what the Trustee will want.

I originally planned to go to work after our 341. Then the Trustee said he wanted to see our filed taxes in the Spring. There went looking for a job. Definitely didn't want the Trustee to see a change in income, much less a job for me.

I am not an attorney. My comments are based on personal experience and research. Always consult an attorney in your area to address concerns related to your particular situation.

Just an FYI on my story. When I originally filed I was working 2 full time jobs, I had be in a Ch13. The Lawyer and the Judge said I could quit one job and convert to Ch7. I finally decided to quit on job after 3 months into the Ch13. As soon as I quit I was actually pulling lots of overtime from the job I kept, almost like I never quit one job. I had a 2nd 341 meeting and it when smooth, no extra paystubs to submit, no extra bank statements. I'm still working ONE job put pulling 60-70-80 sometimes 90 hours overtime. It would be safe to pickup a 2nd gig if you want to AFTER your 341 meeting!

        BEST OF LUCK, CMIYC
