    Surrendering Two Vehicles

We just bought two 2006 vehicles (discharged last Thursday) and have to surrender the ones we had before bankruptcy. On Monday we are to drop off our Honda Odyssey at the dealer. Should we expect any headaches? It has hail damage - we filed a claim but never got it fixed due to $500 deductible. The other car is financed by National City Bank in Ohio (we now live in Texas). We have not heard a whisper from them since before we filed. I plan to call them and find out what they want us to do.

So the reason for the post - have any of you had troubles surrendering your vehicles? I don't want to carry insurance on four vehicles for long at all.

I have a friend that filed 7 and had a car through National City. I live in Ohio. The car blew its engine and he left it at the shop. National City has never come to pick it up and now the repair shop is suing my friend for leaving his car there. Frankly, if I were him, I would pay a tow truck to tow it to National City's parking lot. I know that you can't do that, but don't be surprised if it takes a while.

That would suck - I do not want to pay insurance on it any longer than I have to. Maybe I can charge National City Bank a storage fee.

Nope, not a hitch. They actually picked the car up from me at my request. They gave me the choice of bringing to the dealership, but I felt it would be more of a hassle. I filed the release of liability with the DMV online and canceled my insurance the same day. Quick and easy process. The repo man said it was the easiest job he had ever been on.

Yea, thats something. I can only IMAGINE some of their experiences. I know they engage in some crappy behavior and are not at all liked, but I imagine many of these repo people are kind, outside the job. They too have a family to support.

Okay, feel free to bash me for adding a kinder light to the evil "Repo-Man".

The important piece of surrendering the car is transferring the liability responsibility form. Once you inform City National that you are surrendering the car. Then ask to speak to their repo department and get the number to the repo man. Call him and tell him where he can pick up the car. The fill our the transfer of liability and inform the car repair shop that they need to take up the suit with the owner of the car, who now happens to be City National.

I will call the guy at the dealership before I drive out there so I can know what to expect. I filed a claim for hail damage - do I give that to the dealer so they can get it fixed at their body shop? I am not liable for the deductible but the dealership can recoup some $$$.
