    Just wondering...

My 341 is less than two weeks away, but I know I have a long way to go. Anyway, my dh is about to receive a big settlement from workers comp. He is going to be opening a money market account and putting the rest into a cd. What I'm wondering is, should I leave my name off of these for now? I wouldn't want anyone to think they could just come and take it from him because they have my name on them. Thanks.

Btw, I know wc is exempt. That includes any settlement he may receive, right?

If its not too late and "they," don't know about it (trustee) than keep you name off of them. He is the primary ? I had my SO on alot of my accounts, as an "authorized user," (joint owner) before I filed I got her name off all my accounts just in time!

    Best Wishes, CMIYC

Nope, it's not too late and yes, since these are going to be new accounts, he will be the primary. Thank you...that's what we thought as well. Do you have any idea when I will be able to put it my name on them? Should I wait a year or so? I'm not sure how long they will be looking...if at all.

A Ch 7 BK Estate exists for 180 days from filing. If you were to come into money during that time, the Trustee can take it on behalf of your Creditors. So definitely have Hubby set up the accts with the Workman's Comp payment in his name only for the time being.

        Here's a Day/Date Calculator for you:

        http://www.timeanddate.com/date/dateadd.html

Enter the date you filed, add 180 days, and that will tell you when you'll be free of the BK Estate.
        Filed Ch 7 - 09/06
        Discharged - 12/2006
Officially Declared No Asset - 03/2007
        Closed - 04/2007
