    When should I file.

I have been following this forum for quite some time and I really appreciate all of the insights I have received from members. I am preparing to file in the next few months and would like to get some feedback.

The reason I am filing is that I got carried away with online gambling and used cash advances to fund my gambling. The last time I gambled or used my credit cards was in January. I had a total of $12,543 in cash advances in January and blew it all. Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom to realize you have a problem. That happened when I realized I had no more cash advances available and finally came to grips that I had a gambling problem.

Since then I have stopped gambling, joined gamblers anonymous and have not used my crediat cards since January.

I don't want to bore anyone, but my biggest concern is creditor objections. If I file in July, can I expect objections from creditors ?

Should I wait longer to file? Any imput would be appreciated....Happy Easter, or in some parts of the country Merry Christmas!

Congratulations on coming to grips with your gambling addiction and getting treatment, gak. That takes a lot of courage - good for you!

The more distance you put between the January advances and filing, the better. It's good you have stopped using the cards. Also showing that you intended to pay back the advances by making at least a few payments to the credit cards you used for the advances will help also.

If you haven't spoken with 3-4 experienced bankruptcy lawyers in your area, it's time to do so. Make appointments for free consultations. You will learn a great deal about your options - it's well worth your time!
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.
