    Deadline for adding creditors?

    Deadline for adding creditors?

I found an old phone bill ($275.00) I should have added to my Matrix / schedule f. My 341 is next week the 16th. Should I make the addition before that or would it be ok to wait till after the meeting? Any other tidbits of info on this process is also welcome, thank you!

Anytime before discharge. But even if you don't add them, the debt, if it is unsecured, gets discharged anyway.

You can wait till after your 341. Look around and make sure you didn't forget anything else. That way you only have to pay the $26 to edit your info once.
We actually sat on a medical bill till after our 341 in the hopes that insurance would pay it and we wouldn't have to add it. Didn't work out that way and we had no trouble adding them and at the same time edited a few other things to fix an ooops or two our lawyer made.

Thanks HHM and Jolly! I will sleep well again tonight, thanks to this forum.

I am so going to organize my stuff much better in the future. I found the phone bill along with a big pile of other collection notices buried under some old clothes in a box that was doubling as a night stand. LOL!

HHH- Are you saying that any unsecured debt existing at the time of the bk discharge, whether or not it's included in the creditor matrix, is also automatically discharged? If that is the case, it would be a big weight off of my mind as I've had to find out about most of my cc debt the hard way.

I did free credit checks on my wife and myself prior to completing all of the paperwork with our attorney and included all of the creditors that I found (most of the accounts I didn't even know about) but I've always been nervous about missing a debt that I didn't know about or that didn't show up on the credit reports.

My wife swears there aren't any other debts that we owe and I haven't received any letters or phone calls from creditors since we filed so I'm inclined to believe that this is the case, but getting the truth out of her has been about like peeling an onion and I've harbored a fear that something else would come up after it's too late to do anything about it.

Unless the creditors can prove that you obtained the credit by misrepresenting your financial situation at the time of application, all unsecured debts are considered discharged in your bk, whether they are listed or not.

Thus, for all practical purposes, you don't have to worry about unsecured debt that you have forgotten to list..... unless you have been orchestrating a major scheme there..

But at the same time, you need to make an effort to try and list all creditors. But if you leave one off, it is not detrimental.
