Anyone filed Chapter 7 in the Atlanta area?

I've been "lurking" on this forum over the past month or so. I've learned so much and am very grateful I've found this site! So many of my questions have been answered and reading about others having their Chapter 7 bankruptcy cases discharged has really given me hope.

I'd love it if people in the Atlanta area would be kind enough to share some of their experiences with me. Generally, how long did it take from beginning until end? Was anyone forced into a Chapter 13? If so, why? What was your 341 meeting like?

I'm really, really, really freaking out about filing for bankruptcy! (All documents and fees will be turned in on 12/6/2006.) Any information about how the process has worked for others in the Atlanta area would be appreciated!

    Thanks!

I filed a 7 in Atlanta under old rules and was d/c in early '06. My experiences are that the bk court there is pretty efficient, but at the same time they are also very patient and understanding of the debtor. The 341 was very smooth - we went on our day/time and sat in a room with about 20 other petitioners. We were 6th called and sat in the chair for all of about 10 minutes and were out. Basic questions "Are you who you say you are?" "Did you file this petition and sign the forms?" "Do you recognize that man as your attorney?", "Do you have any expectations of significant income, inheritance, settlement, or pending lawsuits?"...and that was it. Of course, our mortgage holder filed for release of stay, but I had that delayed twice for three months total just to f**k with them and keep the house because it was during the winter...make them 'earn' their damned attorney's wages, too. Overall, including my delays - 5 mos start to end. Should go quicker now because the huge backlog from '05 is gone.

I just posted a new thread and I think this lawyer is in Georgia, he has a cool blog. But don't forget us in this FORUM, this Forum beats all forums and blogs I've been too!

Not to steer anyone away from this WONDERFUL FORUM but this site does give good insight on BK these days. Just a reminder I posted this link somewhere on my many travels throughout this forum.

And you are getting insight from lawyers themselves. Just different Bk situations you all might be running into.

Hope this helps someone out there

Just remember WE ARE ALL IN THE SAME BOAT just for different reasons!

Thanks for the information poorme and catchmeifyoucan! I turned in the filing fee, paperwork and post-dated checks on 12/6/2006! Now I just have to wait for the 341 meeting, which will probably be in January. At least I can enjoy Christmas and New Year's Day knowing that all of this will soon be behind me!
