Our bankruptcy was final last December of 2005. We did not re-afirm on our 2003 Protege. We just kept up on the monthly payments since then. To make a long story short, we went and bought another car, and called HSBC and told them we were wanting to turn the Protege over to them. We owed $9,000. We know that now we don't owe them anything, and they came and picked up the car last week. My question is this. We still have the Title on the Protege. What are we suppose to do with it?

just did the same thing with Ford. You need to file a release of liability with the DMV asap. You will get a certified letter saying you owe, but don't worry, you don't. Once the car sells in auction you will get a letter saying what the owed amt is but then at the bottom it will say "you don't owe this amount." You need to call your ins. co. asap and let them know about the situation and the dmv to see what steps you need to take to be released from liability. I live in CA and was able to do this on the internet without any problems.Chapter 7 Pro Se....Discharged Feb. 2006

Me too
I was wondering "what next" also - I did the same, didn't reaffirm the loan when I filed but kept paying on it to keep it, then last month I got a el-cheapo car and told the bank to come get the previous car. They came and got it, but I haven't heard anything from them and was wondering about the registration, title, and taxes - in KY, if the car is in your name at the end of the year, you'll owe the property taxes on it. I already called and cancelled the insurance, but need to get out of the taxes.
