Yeah, I even tried one of those debt management plans....

That didn't help in any way shape or form. Wonder what the fees that I paid for 3 months could've gone to??

I've cut out cable, long distance (only have basic local phone service), have the lowest level of DSL - sorry I just can't go back to dial up (I pay all bills online & since I no longer have long distance I do most of my correspondence thru the internet).

Somewhere around the beginning of the year I cancelled my cell phone & now have a cell phone under my sister's family plan, because a cell phone I feel is a needed expense - I commute 43-45 minutes to work every day one way & the $30 a month that I pay for my fair share paid off on Saturday when my car blew a tire on the highway.

I too don't have the "luxury" of having an in home day care to earn extra money. That takes accreditation & you have to be able to keep up on the housework. I'm a single parent of a kindergartner.

I am gone between 10 - 11 hours a day. She has events & activities that she attends. I try to take advantage of free programs out there for kids so she'll grow up happy & focused & won't end up on drugs & be a hindrance to society.

My second job is my child & the two-fold responsibilities of being a single parent. Working 2 "real" jobs is just an impossibility. I suppose I could give up custody of her, but that would only be over my dead body
We can plan our lives but we can never plan the outcome.

they're jealous you can file for bk - and they can't.

They're just future bk filers - nothing more. Many have a carefree attitude towards credit while we are much more seasoned and mature now, now that we've been given a 2nd chance.

      ignore them.

Good advice. Like you said. Most of them will be future filers. Mostly going into a 13 I bet.

Lastly, another good site to use is this one. http://consumers.creditnet.com/Discussions/index.php

It took a LOT of soul searching and repeated number-crunching to convince myself that we needed to file. I used to work at a bank and they sort of pound it in your head that you are supposed to set an example to the customers (although how the hell a customer would know that we had a great 720 on our credit report is beyond me but anyway...).

Nobody I know (and I know there are people like this, but none that I know personally) uses bankruptcy as a crutch, or as an easy way out. DH and I did everything we could to avoid filing - used over half of a $25K inheritance to pay off a couple of accounts 2 years ago, played merry-go-cards: transfer a balance from one card to another to get a lower rate - and here we are, getting ready to do it anyway.

People that are totally anti-BK obviously have not had to deal with skyrocketing interest and/or payments, unemployment, having to decide whether to pay that Citi bill or buy diapers or medicine...it's easy to be on your high horse when you've never fallen off it.

Its tough and if you saw me, you would never believe I would file for BK. I look like the upscale housewife next door. Though I no longer have money to get my hair colored. I buy my make up at walmart, and I have had the same clothes for years. I am college educated and speak well, and I think that is why people would be suprised. My point is nervous, in today's society you never know who has money and who does not. Next time you look over at the red light and you see the well coiffed woman in the lexus, do not envy her as I used to do. She may be well on her way to bk hell.

You're right - I've seen people that look like they are ready to be panhandling, but have a LOT of money. (Not sure why you addressed that to me, but )

bk hell, mental hell.....it's hard to tell anything about anyone these days. I don't know that I've ever envied that well-coifed woman; if I envied anyone it was those whose kids were out of diapers AND the terrible twos!

But those aren't personal bankruptcies, they are business bankruptcies.
