No dmc I don't have my own therapist. Never needed one or so I thought. I thought about it and I am going to find my own person to talk to. Even if for now just a church group to get together with. I have my entire family that I can call anyone at anytime doesn't matter what time of day it is. I have girlfriends who say the same thing. Even neighbors are willing to reach out. So I know I am not alone in this by far. I realize none of them are psychologists but right now I don't think I need one of those. Just gonna keep taking it one day at a time and I will get thru this. Whatever today throws at me I will handle it.

Wowser! Just got my latest medical bill and the total is close to 98,000. Just think a little over a month ago I was debt free. I am so heart sick over this I can not even begin to express my feelings. I will never be able to pay that bill. I don't see how the financial dept at the hospital won't just wipe this out for me. Please let this all work out for me. I am crying so hard right cause I worked so hard to get out of debt with my Chapter 13 and now look what happened. Everything is such a mess.

        Hi Angel7821,

I just wanted to chime in and say how incredibly sorry I am that this has happened to you. Just keep thinking positive thoughts towards getting healthy. You've done everything right and just keep at it. As a suggestion perhaps you can see if your family and friends could organize a fundraiser to help with the medical bills. Worst case is maybe the financial department will help set up a payment plan for the bills. You might be paying on them for a while but the most important thing is to get yourself healthy first and foremost. I would definitely look into a support group to help with the stress and emotion. I'll keep you in my prayers that you have a speedy recovery and that things go in your favor.

That's a lot but start a min plan with them and then in 7 years do a 7, 7 in 7! That is your plan! Fight this thing, medical cost are rediculous and nobody can afford them! Hugs
Discharge date: October 2017 (will it ever get here?)

UPDATE: Just got discharged from the hospital again today. I went in Thursday last week 3 days after my last radiation treatment and it really knocked me on my ass. Wanted to die I felt that bad. I was severely dehydrated, depressed etc. I have decided I am not even going to think about the bill anymore. It has plummeted out of being paid off for years and it is not worth stressing myself out about it.

Another update: Got a letter in the mail today and I qualified for Medicaid. My hospitalized bills are covered for Nov and Dec. I am so relieved by this. Just had a question though. Being I qualify for Medicaid someone said I should now apply for SS benefits. Is this true?

Still waiting to hear from disability. Should be any time now to see if I qualify for that.

Angel7821, I cannot say, but it is my understanding that once you are diagnosed with any form of cancer, you qualify and will get SS Disability.

Are you confusing Disability with SS? I think you may be. Double-check on that. There is standard Social Security Benefits. There is also Social Security Disability Benefits, which I think you qualify for.

There is also another Social Security Benefit [I think.] that my MIL qualified for, but she did not get her full benefit because she either was not old enough or had not paid enough into the system while she was employed.

                Anyone with a username with 'Angel' in it, should have to be going through these things! {{{{{HUGGSS}}}}

Thanks for the reply. I will call the SS office on Monday and see what they have to say. Maybe I will be qualified for some things I never knew about it. I will post again once I get more info.

Hi, I just wanted to say that I am so sorry to read about your situation and will keep you in my prayers and thoughts. You have rec'd a lot of good info here on the subject and just want to continue to encourage you to come back here whenever you need to ask questions. It is like a family here and there always seems to be someone that has been in your shoes or really close to it that might be able to help.

Try to focus on your treatment and recovery, that is most important at the moment. Thankfully you seem to have a good support system there and plenty of people to talk to. I wish you the best and send you hugs and please keep us updated.

I've heard that a lot of hospitals will give you a discount for paying cash. I think it helps them with not having to deal with the insurance companies. It might be worth asking the hospital about.

In response to AngelinaCat's comment, there's Social Security Disability, SSD, for people who have worked and earned enough credits to qualify for it. Then there's SSI, for people who are disabled, and either have not worked, or have not earned enough credits for SSD. I'm sorry about everything you're going through. Sending prayers for a quick recovery.

Found out today all my meds are covered with Medicaid. I was so happy to find that out. Met with a new dr today and I told her I would like to know how much time I have left. So she will talk with my reg dr and he will let me know on Tues of next week. I wonder how they figure that one out.

Don't count on any doctor's opinions as to "how much time you have left." That is up to God.

My BIL was given 6 months to live back in 2007. This is now 2014, and how many years was that in between?

Also, my friend I spoke of with the Stage IV Melanoma, was given "18 months" back when he was diagnosed in 2011. Again, this is now 2014, and seems to be doing well. Any issues that arrive, he handles. Also, he qualified and got SS Disability on his very first try.

I agree with AC my ex sister law dad was told a few months he lived 20 years longer. I am sure there are many stories out there like that Drs do not know only God does is my belief.

When my husband was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer 10 years ago he was told he had 6 months. With God, great doctors and some aggressive treatment, he fought it out for nearly three more years before he was too weak to continue (passed in 07'). Just find every treatment you can and leave the rest to God. Bless you and glad to see you are getting some help. ((hugs))
