Pre-Discharge Debtor Education - Completed 13 in North Carolina

In preparation of completing our 5 year plan, I was planning on taking the debtor education course required before discharge. Having looked on-line and not finding NC as one of the states for the course I started digging into my paperwork. We had the credit counseling at the atty.'s office prior to filing and had to attend another debtor education class for 3 hours before our scheduled 341. Correct me if I'm wrong, but would the second class be the one that had to be done before discharge? From what I read it stated that the course had to be completed within 45 days of 341 and after filing. It appears that NC, at least in the middle district, gets the education course out of the way early on in the plan.

Can any NC filers, that have been discharged, enlighten me? 4 months to go and I want to avoid any hiccups at the end.

    GA filer here...
I would check with your attorney about the second class. I know mine emailed me a link to an online pre-discharge course, to which I said "I've got a few years before I need to worry about this."

If you need to find a course, check with your trustee. Mine lists one on their website that they offer every month. It's a Dave Ramsey course, not sure if it's approved in NC.

    Hope this helps.

Yep -check with your trustee FIRST - not all courses are accepted by all trustees; their website should have something (if they have a site), if not, call.

You must complete 2 courses, one prior to 341 and then the other prior to discharge. Make sure your attorney and the trustee get a copy of your certificates and dont rely on the site to send them. We put our trustee and attorney email address along with our own and we were the only ones to receive the certificate, so we sent a copy directly to them both.

Appreciate the response, however, NC appears to be unique in how they do the 13 and education courses, at least when we filed in 2008. That's the reason for the question, specifically, to NC filers that have been discharged. As I stated, we had our pre-filing credit class at the atty.'s office and the "Post-Petition Budget Class" on the same day as the 341 and my paperwork indicated that we would not receive a discharge without completion of the class.

Rest assured that I will be getting in touch with either trustee or atty. to make certain.
