Every apartment manager was ok with the bankruptcy they just were concerned because it wasn't discharged. I finally found one who would help me. They ran my credit for free and it came back approved with conditions. All that meant was I had a little higher security deposit. It is hard, but honesty is best policy and by that I mean ask before you fork over any money for a credit check. There are some compassionate places out there. I move in next weekend.
kjrmom911 - I'm going through something similar. Husband and I are 2 1/2 years into a 5 year joint Ch. 13 and we are separating/divorcing. May I ask how you both are handling the Chapter 13? Bifurcating, finishing your current plan, or converting to 7. Thanks!

Honestly, I don't think these decisions have much to do with compassion or education. Landlords have biases, and if those biases are legal, they're free to act on them. I bet there's also a correlation between nicer houses/units and increased bias against those in active 13s. Those landlords that are "compassionate" are probably so only because of necessity.

I'm in an active 13, but can't help but acknowledge that I would also choose the applicant with good credit if given the choice. It's just good sense.
