    Financial Aid in Ch 13

Is it possible to get financial aid for school while in a Ch 13? We have three years left on our plan, and my student loans are in deferrment, forbearance, or default (I'm really not sure what it's called, but I know they have stopped collecting while I'm in bankruptcy, and I wasn't behind on my payments to the student loan company before bankruptcy).

Anyway, my employer offers tuition reimbursement, but you have to pay the tuition to the school first and my employer reimburses me after I've made a C or better in each class. With my almost $1500.00/month bk payment, I obviously can't afford to pay the tuition myself. Has anyone had experience in obtaining student loans while in ch 13? Is it even possible if your other student loans are on hold?

Sorry if this has been asked numerous times before, I wasn't really able to find my answer by searching the threads.

How does a chapter 13 bankruptcy affect financial aid? Would it be difficult to get financial aid for my child because my husband and I filed chapter 13 about 2 years ago? — C. F. A previous bankruptcy can affect eligibility for some education loans [IN_FEED_PLACEMENT] but it does not affect eligibility for other forms of financial aid. The Bankruptcy Reform Act of 1994 (P.L. 103-394) amended the US Bankruptcy Code at 11 USC 525(c) to prohibit denial of government student grants and loans based solely on the student's or borrower's past or present filing of a bankruptcy petition. According to the information on the above site, the only federal student loan that bankruptcy will disqualify you from is a Plus loan.

For private loans, it will depend on the lender. The school's financial aid office can probably tell you about eligibility requirements of various lenders.

Early in our Ch13, husband was going to school and was able to get additional gov't backed loans w/approval of the BK courts. There were an extra couple hoops to go through, but he got the funding. If you've not maxed on those loans, might be an option.
