Two years down, three to go.

Wife and I have made 24 out of 60 payments, and it does feel good. I know we're on the right track to NEVER being in this situation again, having very much learned our lesson on "easy credit".

We're high income and high debt - $1950.00 monthly payment to reach about 85% payback (once you factor in a few thousand a year tax return also being mailed in).

We'll come out of the plan, with luck, just as our two cars are paid off. Then we can aggressively finish what will be left of student loans ($15000 or so), and a 2nd mortgage ($40,000ish). Then we'll have no debt in the world other than our primary mortgage. Just thinking about that day keeps me going.

To anyone just starting, or in a similar situation where you have the income but were young and stupid - you can do this. I LOVE PAYING WITH CASH. I've learned to collect cash rather than possessions

Chapter 13 is defiantly a lesson well learned on paying with cash in the future! Keep up the good work it's worth it in the end!

I love the cash only lifestyle and will continue with it after I am done with my 13.

Thank you so much for posting your story. It's inspiring. We too have committed to the cash only lifestyle. I've become addicted to watching our savings grow and our debt dissolve. I love this forum. The people here have become my "virtual" family. I HATE what brought us here and never want to let someone else own me ever again. We are learning new (old fashioned) ways of paying for things and suddenly [things] just don't have the allure that they used to.

          Keep up the good fight.

That is just so true Bajan. Yesterday I had about an hour of free time between appointments and I was near the mall. In the "old" days I used to go in and buy a couple of new outfits, whip out the credit cards and take the new clothes home. Yesterday I thought about going into the stores to look at clothes and I said to myself "nah I am not spending my cash." So I have been truly changed by being in a 13. And changed for the better and I am thankful for that.

              Congratulations, everyone.

I know I have my moments when I wish I had a CC, but those are becoming fewer, and fewer...I think. I have a card of sorts, but is a pre-paid cash card, and I watch every penny, nickel, and dime that goes off of it...

Congrats! We just made our 24 payment also. Our payment is 1284.00 a month but our income varies. Husband is a truck driver. Some months have been easier than others but in 3 years we will be debt free and I have no plans to ever borrow again. I too have found that paying as I go is the best thing.

I am making my fifth payment, but so far it's been going quickly. I want to be debt free, have some equity and be free of cc interest forever! Keeping my sites on the goal!
                  Good luck everone!
