This first year really was great, no more worrying about creditors calling, we felt "caught" up. Then the second and third year became more challenging. Had a few bumps in the road, husbands truck died, son graduated from high school (lots of extra expenses), we ended up downsizing into a tiny 2 bedroom apt to make ends meet, but we somehow made it through (or almost through), there were times of tears and anger, regrets, sadness, lots of different emotions. I guess somehow we were mourning spending money! This last year has also been a bit nerve racking now that we can see the light at the end of the tunnel, we are anxious to move on and start over. We however have learned SO many lessons about money, budgeting, and ourselves in general. The only debt I would like to incur once this is done is a house, but that will probably take us a couple more years to be able to get one, we have to build our savings up, that's where most of our Chapter 13 payment is going once we make our final payment! As I look at our case and I see that we've paid almost $50,000 it amazes me. We've never had any savings, and to think wow we paid all this money back, if we would have been more disciplined we would have a great savings account and probably would have never had to go through this mess. Learn to be frugal and creative! It does suck to go through a chapter 13 but we are much better off having gone through it! Good Luck to you!Filed August 09, all payments made as of July 12th, 2013.....Waiting on final audit and discharge!

I know the "close to the end" feeling too! I have about 4 months to go! It has been quite a struggle to say the least. But I will be debt free, except for the crummy house that is falling apart (needs new windows and siding to the tune of around $50K+).
Considering that about 4 in 5 Chapter 13s fail, it feels good to be getting there. The economy still stinks, and my wife cannot find decent employment (in medical field - local unemployment is very high and companies have massively reduced medical benefits). I talked with my attorney this last week and he said that this year is the worst (best for him?) that he has seen in 25 years.Filed 11/08, confirmed 5/09, 60 months - 100% Expect completion in May 2013 (@month 54)
