    Credit score

    Hi,

We are 17 months into our Ch. 13 plan. I checked my credit score last week and it was 626. Not great, I know, but it seemed a little higher than I expected. Is this a typical Ch. 13 score?

    Thanks!

There is no way to calculate or guess any one person's FICO credit score. There are too many factors. Your credit history prior to filing is the largest factor in that credit score. It should improve with time as things start to age off your credit report. I'm guessing that after the 2 year mark (25 months to be more precise to allow for slow reporting after filing), you may see another slight bump in your credit score.
    Chapter 7 (No Asset/Non-Consumer) Filed (Pro Se) 7/08 (converted from Chapter 13 - 2/10)
Status: (Auto) Discharged and Closed! 5/10

That's quite good actually, mine was around that or higher when I was on time with all my credit card payments, after losing my job the I missed some payments and it's now down around 600. Proof that paying your bills on time doesn't equal a great credit score, too many factors that effect this but it's interesting to see that you filed and it's that high, I would expect in the 500 range.

I think that is a pretty good score.

I was also expecting it to be in the 500 range. Thanks for the replies!

Mine is at 633. Been that number for a while now.

I have a mortgage that is about 50% done, I should be done in about 8 years and then we'll be very debt free, so the credit SCAR be darned.
              Filed 09/08/10, $26k unsecured. Plan submitted 09/16/10, $250/mo X 36 Months = $9,000.
              First Payment: 09/28/10 341 Hearing: 10/12/10, Confirmation: 10/28/10
2nd debtor education course taken: 02/05/13. DISCHARGE: 10/10/2013.

I am just finishing year 3 of a 5 year plan. My score has been increasing each year, 1st year it was only 14 points, this past year 25 points. It just takes time for the items to age. The bk will remain on your credit history for 7 years from your file date if you complete your plan for a ch13. Not that it really matters since I am in no hurry to obtain any new debt. I have 3 debit cards, as I just got the Target red card with no issues.
                Discharged 5/2015

So you have 3 bank accounts? Target works from your bank account right? I was going to get it, but passed up because I knew my credit score would not pass the test. The discount is nice though.

Yes, Target has a debit card now. It withdraws from your existing bank account each time you make a purchase. Each time you use it, you get a 5% discount AND free shipping online with no minimum purchase (great for clearance items!). There is no credit check.
                    Filed Chapter 13 on 2-28-10. 341 completed 4/14/10. Confirmed 5/14/10. Lien strip granted 2/2/11
0% payback to unsecured creditors, 56 payments down, 4 to go....

That's 7 years from the date you file your petition, not from plan completion or discharge. The law prohibits it remaining longer than 10 years after filing, but Chap 13 is typically removed after 7 years.

My score is currently 680. It even has inaccureate information that once I dispute should knock my score up more.

I've been watching my score info on Credit Karma, Credit Sesame and Credit.com, since just before filing, because I'm curious and they are free. I will be getting down to serious CR cleanup shortly. I was discharged/closed end of November. I just looked at my Credit Sesame page which updates once a month, and I now have no score! The explanation was: This is good news, think of it as a clean slate. I can't wait to see my actual Experian report. Credit Karma shows about 600, which varies from day to day. There are some items on there that don't belong, so I haven't been too concerned yet. But 'no score' is kind of amusing.
