Do people actually buy vehicles while in chapter 13? I have been trying to purchase a vehicle for a few weeks now. I have court approval however, dealing with dealerships who have had trouble finding financing is like I have a disease. I am trading in 2 older vehicles to get one reliable one which is my down payment and I work a full time job. It is very frustrating. It seems like no one wants to deal with someone in bankurptcy.

Make a few phone calls to the larger dealerships or a place like CarMax in your area during work hours. Speak ONLY to the finance manager or F&I Specialist. Start the conversation by asking them if they want to sell you a car TODAY. Then explain the Chapter 13 situation by first saying you have Trustee approval. A savvy F&I guy will (1) fall all over himself to sell you a car TODAY and (2) will know about selling vehicles in a Chapter 13.
I worked for a car dealer back in the day and this should help you get to an experienced person within the hierarchy of a dealership.
Did you ask your attorney for a recommendation? They might know where other Chapter 13 debtors have purchased cars during their BK.
Good luck!!
PS: The closer mid-month and/or month-end is - the more amenable and helpful dealers are.~~ Filed Over Median Income Chapter 7: 12/17/2010 ~~ 341 Held: 1/12/2011 ~~ Discharged: 03/16/2011 ~~Not an attorney - just an opinionated woman.

You may not be able to get "traditional" lending especially through Ford Motor Credit, Toyota Financial Services, and even traditional banks. There is always USBank which is known to have a program for Chapter 13 debtors. You need a bank that specializes in Bankruptcy -- and more particularly active Chapter 13 -- cases.Chapter 7 (No Asset/Non-Consumer) Filed (Pro Se) 7/08 (converted from Chapter 13 - 2/10)
