    Trustee Payment Address Change

    Hello fellow BK friends,
My trustee has changed the payment address from Benton, IL (his office) to Memphis, TN (bank processing lock box). Has anyone had any glitches with this change or had this change? I am self employed so send a money order about three weeks before the due date regular mail. I am thinking of now sending the payment with proof of mailing since that is only $1.59 with the stamp, as opposed to roughly $6 priority with deliver confirmation.
For the last two years I have been able to see my payment on 13data on the third day and I will miss that. Now I suppose I will have to wait a week or so?
    Any thoughts on this?
    Thank you.

Hello! I would definately use the cert of mailing...I use USPS Priority Mail because I am paranoid.

Now, so far (3 payments and counting) it's been going like this: My check clears ALWAYS the business day right AFTER the PO Box (suntrust runs their po box) receives the check. So say check is received on Wed, clears on Thurs, and on Fri I can see it credited on 13datacenter.com as of Thursday's date.

    (Thus far anyway :-)

      Hi IamOld,

That is good to know! So far everything has been real efficient on the Trustees end and I hope it stays that way. Sounds like Suntrust has it together too.
Thanks for getting back so quick.
      Much success with your thirteen.

Well apprently this is a new thing because my trustee in California also went to this new lock box in Memphis! The very first payment (garnishment) sent there by my employer HAS NOT SHOWN UP YET and I am stressing out. The trustee's office is NO HELP telling me I have to tell my employer to cancel the first check and issue another one. So I wonder what happens when the initial check shows up in this lock box and is cancelled??? Two and a half years and this BS happens. Why would trustees be so f-ing lazy to outsource their payments to another state???? I don't get it.

maximo, I don't understand why they have to do it while payroll ded-my spouse is going on that next month - and I'm sure it'll be nerve-wracking, as you're waiting for a third party to regular mail something it's nuts.

I suspect that SunTrust was the lowest national bidder to "rationalize" their account management...

Is there ANY way you can find out when your employer sent the check???

They sent the check 7/7....it always appeared on 13data center w/in 4-5 days. My employer said the check has not cleared the bank so I don't know whats up!

Good grief - now you're making me more paranoid than usual...did they put all the info on there, got the pO box right, etc?

Funny how for 2.5 years the payment got there on time and now all of a sudden it is missing. Money hungry trustee and uncaring office staff. I tell you I just can't win. This chapter 13 has literally ruined my life, my family and my mind. I have no peace anymore and haven't for a long time.

                    What happened with your 13??????

And yes, I expect no one to help - but the utter illogic of mandatory wage deduction (I know I know I'm repeating myself) is nuts...why put the onus on a THIRD party to mail the payment REGULAR mail? My spouse decided that if the payroll folks show it deducted from the paycheck it was mailed end of story. That's what the custom is in our district, we cannot be responsible for them mailing things...our atty told us just to keep paystubs as that is our proof of payment.

Well I just sent a payment to the new address regular mail no extras. It is way early so I can test the time line. I have a lot of time to fix it if it doesn't show up in a couple of weeks.
Sorry some are have troubles with payroll deduction. Thank God I am self employed and know when I sent it!

Just stick your payment in an envelope and put a first class stamp on it and forget about it. Keep the certified check or money order receipt to show you paid. There is no way your case can get dismissed if the mail does not get there. Everybody who asks this question seems to think that the post office is not to be trusted. That's absurd.

It's not that the Post Office can't be trusted, but a simple thing like a certificate of mailing is a CYA kind of thing... if the payment does get waylaid, then WE are the ones that have to answer to the Trustee, not the Post Office. If it happens, I want to be able to show my Trustee the receipt for YES I DID purchase the money order and YES I DID mail it, and when.

tigergem is right - look I've used USPS Priority Mail for various stuff over the last few years NEVER a problem...until my FIRST payment to Trustee (which I sent express mail) was sent to the wrong city - BUT they did send it to Memphis the following day; in a PO Box to my Mort co - that post office puts my payment into Toyota Motor Credit's box (same post office) - Argh. Fingers always crossed.

I think that using a certificate of mailing is a great idea, since priority mail with delivery confirmation for $6.00 will add up fairly fast. I now have about 4 important pieces of mail, IRS tax payment, state tax payment, mortgage and trustee payment all due on the first of the month. The $1.59 proof, at least gives me a little peace of mind. I also mail these payments around the 15th, to allow them plenty of time.
