Ok, why do I bother checking my mailbox on friday evenings. I got a letter from Chase (my mortgage lender) acknowledging that they received my bankruptcy filing. It has instructions about where to send my payment (which is different than where I normally send it). We are filing chapter 13 and the mortgage is current and being paid outside the plan. I had intended to pay it with my billpay through my bank, just like every other month, but the address change has me worried. Of course I can't reach a real person at Chase until Tuesday (they are closed for the holidays) and my payment is due on Wenesday. Any ideas?

Since they closed your online access and your payment is due Wednesday, I would go to the post office today and send it via overnight mail so it arrives Wednesday.Filed Chapter 13 02/2006 - Confirmed 05/2006 - Discharged 09/2011

Just an update on this. Chase employees were working today, so I did call and talk to someone who......was no help at all. She had no idea whether online banking was acceptable. I decided to take a chance and pay it thru online banking like I do every month. The only thing is that I now have 2 different letters from chase with 2 different addresses to send my payments to. Really? Wow, frustrating. I just want to pay my mortgage.

If your bank was previously making the payment electronically, it is possible that the need to send payment to a new department will require your bank to mail a check to Chase instead. But, there is no reason why using your online banking would not be acceptable.Last edited by LadyInTheRed; 05-30-2011, 09:59 AM.LadyInTheRed is in the black!

Our first mortgage is through Chase Home Finance. After we filed, we received that same letter you did and had to start sending our payments to their bankruptcy department. We've been paying our monthly mortgage payment to Chase using our bank's bill pay feature for years now without a problem.I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.
