Sooo... how do you pay your trustee?

I'm sure this has been discussed but could not find an existing thread.

I've tried both a money order sent a very expensive return receipt priority mail as well as first class and oddly, the first class seems to get there faster. I would prefer just to use the bill payer service who I believe just mails a bank check but I have not had the nerve to try it yet.

Any thoughts from those who have to mail in funds?

You can just send it regular mail, a money order. Its not a big deal, as long as it gets there on time.

If your trustee requires a money order or cashier's check, like most do, your bank's bill pay will not work. I get a money order from the post office and send it by regular mail. 11 payments down and no problems.

The reason it takes longer for the certified mail to arrive is that somebody has to sign for it.

I send mine Priority Mail with delivery confirmation...it's about 1% of my monthly payment and well worth it IMHO...

          Good luck.
No person in their right mind files a Ch. 13 with lien strip pro se. I have. Therefore, please consider me insane and clinically certifiable when reading my posts, and DO NOT take them as legal advice of any kind.Thank you.

I send a cashiers check regular mail at least a week out. Then I check with 13datacenter to make sure it was applied. I printed out laminated labels with the trustees address and made sure the fonts were very readable. This way I knew the address was always right and I did not transpose anything or made it hard for the optical scanner I think the Post Office uses to sort the mail. I still use return address labels on everything in case of a mix up. So far so good.

Cashier's Check regular mail. Although now that my bank has decided to charge $8 for each cashier's check, I'm going to start sending money orders instead.

SHark is right - you can sign up for an account at www.usps.com, and print Priority Mail Labels - flat fee CHEAPER if you pay online - and then use the Priority Mail flat fee mailer from the post office. You can print a sheet that they scan in for you so it appears on line, and it's trackable and takes no more than 2 to 3 postal days.

I use PO money, Walmart is cheaper but I would have to send 3 instead of my normal 2. I mail mine about 2 weeks out, depending on the pay weeks. It usually takes a week or less to post, but I did find last year around July 4th holiday it took 2 weeks to post on 13data and I was afraid it was lost. It was also the week before of my 3rd confirmation hearing and I was afraid we wouldn't get confirmed if it was lost. Fortunately it did show up and we were confirmed.

First payment with a money order. Remaining is automatically deducted form my payroll check (listed as bankruptcy garnishment on stub) every 2 weeks. Company charges me $1.00 for each payment. Never late and don't have to worry about it.

My trustee specifies that it must be a bank check or money order. No electronic payments or personal checks allowed. My bank allows me one money order per day, for no charge. So, about a week ahead I mail in the payment using regular first class mail. Then after about 5 days, I check the 13datacenter to be sure it has been received.

I am also about one month ahead. I pick up that money order for the trustee, when I go to the bank to pay my mortgage. I hold that money order until it's time to send it. I don't have a regular income, and I definitely don't want to be late on this.

Does it actually say "bankruptcy garnishment"? I'm not (yet) doing payroll deduction, but my atty said it would be show up discreetly, and be listed as something like "judgement" or something else non-specific. That's the only thing holding me back from payroll deduction, I'm concerned about my personal business being spread in the workplace.

Under deductions it shows - Garnish: Bankruptcy XXX.XX
                          Garnish: Service charge X.XX

All mixed in with union dues, uniform, pre tax medical, 401k pre tax and 401k employer. If someone got hold of my pay stub it doesn't jump out at them. I get direct deposit and most of the time my stub is mailed to me later in the week.

guess we have one of the few & far between Trustee's that accepts personal checks. We paid our first 2/3 payments via personal check, mailed it out with tracking/confirmation before having it switched over to deduction out of payroll. Much easier that way for us as its paid for the following month in the middle of the current one. No hassle.

My trustee accepts personal checks so I just have my banks bill payer setup to automatically send the check the same day every month. I check 13datacenter to make sure it was received. My trustee has a policy where they don't file for dismissal due to non-payment until you are 3 months behind, so if for some reason it doesn't post on time I don't really have to worry too much.
