PLEASE talk to maybe more lawyers!!!! Life ins goes directly to YOU - YOU!!!! are NOT in any way responsible for your husband's debts that are in HIS name only (except medical bill sin some states). NO NO NO NO - the lIFE INS is untouchable AS LONG AS!!!! YOU are the beneficiary NOT the "estate."

PLEASE check with the life ins co who is the beneficiary - they are actually really good to work with!!!!!!!!

First let me offer condolences to you and your son. I agree with the others - you should definitely be looking into a Ch 7 so you can truly get a fresh start and be able to best provide for your son. Meet with several attorneys and have a list of questions ready. This forum is invaluable for pointing folks in the right direction in terms of what to ask and what to watch out for.

Regarding the house - I do not mean to sound insensitive, but there are companies who specialize in taking care of unattended death scenes and their services are generally covered by homeowners insurance. They will arrange for all of the necessary work to put the home back in order, should you decide to hang on to it.

Don't get pushed into paying any bills or signing any settlement agreements until you get everything sorted out.
