I filed chapter 13 on 02/12/11. My plan is for 36 months with 0% and montly payments of $599.00. I am scheduled for 341 meeting on 03/30/11. Since filing I have had some good news or possibly bad. First, I got a raise 4.0% , it does not go into effective until April so this will be after the meeting. I was also told that I would also get a Bonus of almost $4000.00 ( I have NEVER had a bonus since I have worked for this company. I have been there 4 years and they have NEVER given a bonus to anyone on my level). The company was very profitable last year and they have decided to reward the employees. I don't expect this to ever happen again. We did not even get a pay increase 2 years ago when the economy tanked. Even more....My husband and I never get tax returns. But, this year we got a $5000.00 refund. In part because I quit my second job in January of last year and forgot to change my deductions ( I was having more taken out b/c of the second job so I would not owe). In Georgia, I have heard the Trustees take all of your tax refund. My husband did not file chapter 13 and he was not hearing that so he took his half of the refund for himself. I did a few repairs to my car b/c it was desperately needed ( new tires, tune up, etc). But, I still have most of my half of the money. I placed a call to my attorney but no c/b yet. I think that I might have already messed up a good plan. Any thoughts ????????

You should be happy. they may take taxes for next year but you haven't even had the 341 meeting. if you already got your refund, dont worry about them taking it. It sounds like you want to go to your 341 meeting and hand it to them.
A good tip. Change your deductions on your W4 so next year you will be about even. you will get more money every pay period. Otherwise, you will be just handing them free money.
You should save your refund or have fun with it.

I really need new eyeglasses and we need to do some house repairs but I was afraid to spend anymore since my husband has already spent his money.
And, my attorney did not tell me when I filed to submit any refunds. He just said file your taxes before the meeting b/c the Trustee will not confirm until they are filed.
Hell, I still owe the attorney $200.00. I think I am going to finish paying the attorney and get the eyeglasses. I need to be able to see in order to work.
I have already changed my deductions so this will not happen again. The attorney did advise me to change the deductions so the Trustee would not get future taxes. But, he never mentioned this one.
Too much news in one week!
