Claims on PACER?

I should probably know this by now, but what exactly ARE the claims your creditors file against you? Is it just confirmation that "Yeah, we want this much money from these people?"

I went to PACER today and I have 9 claims, totalling $135,300.11. $53,908.43 unscured and $81,391.68 secured.
