    Oh yeah 35k sounds like a lot, but I live in California and pay #1500 for 800 sq ft of living space.

    $35K isn't much any where at all these days, much less in California or New York.

    In the midwest $500/month will pay for a 700 sq ft, 1BR apt in a relatively new building. Taxes on gasoline, groceries, everything is lower too. The overall cost of living is just lower in fly-over country than on either coast.

    Hubby's job pays pretty much the same no matter where we would live in the country. New York, LA, Florida, or PoDunk Middle America. Pay is the same. What does vary is the cost of living. We couldn't make it at all if we lived any where but middle America.
