    selling an asset before filing

If I sell an asset on ebay, how long must I wait to file? Am I limited on what I can do with the money? TIA

I think it depends on how much money you are talking about.

In addition to how much money is involved (whatever money you get from the sale counts into your last-six-months income calculations), also important is how much cash your state (or federal if your state allows it) exemptions protect on filing day. Speak to your bk lawyer to find out about this one, because the amount of cash allowed on filing day varies widely across the country.
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

The ebay auction ended before I ever talked to an attorney, but the item was not paid until after my first meeting with the attorney. I was planning on paying off a few bills, plus I will be incurring additional medical expenses not covered by my insurance that I need to pay, also my stove died and I was thinking I could get a stove. Anyway, I will call my attorney. Thanks!
