Whether it is normal, depends. I think some districts require debtor attendance, but in general, it is not normal. If your lawyer told you that you needed to attend, I would think he/she would have given you some idea of your role or what to expect. Typically, the only time the debtor needs to attend confiramtion is if confirmation is in dispute (i.e. trustee objected) and the debtor needs to testify to something to resolve the issue.
