Paying unsecured

I understand that unsecureds get paid near the end of the plan. I was curious if they usually just get paid by the trustee in one shot (with enough balance on hand) or do they / can they get paid over several months?

All districts are different as well as how the trustee distributes payments. We are well into month 13 and the only distrbutions made in our case are the monthly crammed down car payment included in our plan and the remaining lawyer fees. We currently have an 11k balance on hand according to NDC.
