I contacted my attorney first. We haven't filed yet. We had an $804 retainer for our attorney and the credit counseling fee was included in the retainer.

First step is to see if you are going to do a 7 (if you qualify only) or a 13.

the 13 is necessary if you make too much or if you want to keep assets, such as your home.

Get an attorney before doing any credit counseling certification. The attorney will recommend the counseling, and you can do that online.
