Renting a car - No credit card

Has anyone every rented a car while using a debit card while still in Chapter 13? I need to rent a car (Hertz) and was advised that they could run a credit check. What are they looking for and am I automotically not qualified because I have filed 13. Has anyone ever experienced this and has anyone been rejected renting a car because of the credit check? I live in Atlanta.

This is a really nice article about this -

It says for those running a credit check they are normally looking for the score to be above 525

Nice article. I will confirm that National will rent you a car with just a check card, however you have to be from out of town as they will ask for your flight confirmation/reservation number. I rented while in Florida this way without any hassle.

I always use a debit card when I rent with Alamo. Just have a proof of return ticket. I like that they do not put a hold for more than the cost of the rental on your card either.

Enterprise takes debit cards with certain restrictions. Most of them do but have restrictions in place and those restrictions may vary. You will have to call the company and ask specifically.

National definitely rents with a debit card. I travel a lot with work and use my debit card with them all the time. They authorize for the full amount of the rental and you are required to show your round trip ticket, but they have no problem with this.

Thanks for the info - although I am not flying - I did find out that Enterprise will rent as long as you bring a copy of two utility bills. They also place a $200 hold which I can handle.
