As far as the sales proceeds of the truck: I don't think stocking up on $2000 worth of clothes would fly--$500 maybe, but not $2k. But you can do things like prepay your car insurance for a year, do any car maintenance that you know you'll need to do soon (tune-ups, new tires, brakes, etc). Have you been putting off getting glasses, dental work, etc? Home repairs? Prepay next month's utility bills or even your mortgage payment. We did all of the above with our tax refund and none of it was questioned.

If you pre-pay say a year's worth of insurance -- do you still get to count it as a monthly expense of your Schedule J?
I have a monthly recurring orthodontist bill which I thought about paying off with the extra cash I'll need to spend. But then I won't have that monthly expense anymore and think I may need it for my DMI.
